Counting Down the Days...

...till the first day of Kindergarten!!

Yesterday was officially 1 MONTH till the first day of Kindergarten. Wasn't it just yesterday I was saying it was 6 months till Kindergarten??? Yikes! Time flies by fast! I have had to push thoughts of getting ready for Kindergarten to the back of my mind this summer because there was so much else to do with college classes, etc. Now with classes starting to wind down, I can now start gearing my brain towards teaching Kindergarten again!!! Yay! So do you know what I just spent my last 2 hours doing? Looking at websites such as the one below to get fun, new ideas....there are SOOO many resources out there! The possibilities are endless - I love it!! :-)

Sticker Wall

Today I tried something new in Sunday School. Every week the children sit around the table doing puzzles for at least 10 minutes before we start morning assembly. It has been that way since forever! Nothing wrong with puzzles, but it was time to put a twist on the morning routine in the 2's & 3's Sunday school class...

...So I invented the sticker wall!

I had a rather large collection of sticker "odds n ends" from both the SS classroom and my kindergarten classroom, so I gathered them all together and placed them on the table. Without much fanfare, I invited my kiddos to go put stickers on the sticker wall. Some were a little hesitant at first....Aren't we supposed to sit here and do puzzles now? But they soon warmed up to the idea!

I was amazed by how excited my kiddos were to place random stickers on a wall. It didn't seem that extraordinary to me, but to them it was something NEW and exciting!

Poor Miss Rachel hardly had any students in her 4's and 5's class because even the older kids wanted to have the opportunity to put stickers on the "sticker wall". A few of them asked me, "Why are we doing this??" and I told them that the blue paper needed some color and designs on it. :) That seemed to satisfy them! It was neat seeing the older ones assisting the younger ones, especially with those hard-to-peel-off & stubborn stickers!

There soon was a crowd around the "sticker wall" as more kids were dropped off for Sunday School.

As you can see, there is still plenty of room for more stickers! The children had to leave their sticker wall to start morning assembly, but I promised them we would do it again next week (if it hasn't been destroyed yet!) to see if we can fill it all up. It won't be something I do EVERY week with the kids, because, obviously, that could get boring fast! However, it's nice to throw in something new and exciting (to them at least!) every once in awhile to keep them occupied. :)

Just Keep Swimming

So this has been an interesting summer so far! I have crammed tons of information into my cranium in regards to these online classes. The accounting world is indeed a complicated world, but I love it because it is an ORGANIZED world! Seriously, the men and women who invented these concepts must have either been extremely organized, or extremely OCD! I still have two major projects due before the classes are over, so right now feelings of "overwhelmed-ness" are creeping in. I have been trying - this week especially - to work ahead in other things so I can dedicate all my brain cells to these projects. It's amazing how inspired I feel when I post the calendar with things due right in front of me. Why didn't I think of this sooner?

Today my worlds came crashing together as I contemplated the fact that in a little more than a month, I will be a school teacher, a secretary (2 jobs), and a student of accounting all at the same time!! (Of course they all start with an S (smile)) It was a rather mind-swirling thought! However, I decided to take Dori's advice from the movie Finding Nemo and am going to just keep swimming! :-)

Celebrating 20 Years of Life

Andy celebrated his 20th birthday today. He had a lot of comments about "getting old" now that he is out of his teen years. ;-) Ah, yes, I told him tonight that it is all down hill from now on....jokingly, of course!

It's amazing to me that we have actually reached these ages. I remember thinking that being in your 20's would be SOOO old, but now both Andy and I are in them....and no, we are not old ;-)

I've enjoyed seeing my brother grow up this past year - physically, yes, but especially spiritually. He has just been growing so much in the Lord, and has been such an encouragement and challenge to me! What ever happened to that annoying little squirt of a brother? :) Now, an older, more mature brother has taken his place. He feels more like my older brother then my lil' brother (in more ways than one!). Nina's brother, Titus, also celebrated a birthday today, and I liked the quotes she had on her blog regarding brothers, especially the first one. So as not to steal her "thunder", you can read the quotes here on her blog!

So any guesses what my Mom put on Andy's cake this year? It looks very similar to the real thing :) As a hint, it was a birthday present...which is why it was on the cake!
