Numbers Class with Destiny

It's been quite some time since I had a teacher helper in the classroom. It is not for lack of asking on THEIR part, that's for sure! Every day I was enthusiastically asked, "Who is your teacher helper going to be today?!" However, with all the craziness of February with multiple snow days, I just couldn't get it worked out.

Today, though, I promised them that I would start the teacher helper schedule back up. Destiny was quite excited to be the one selected. It was even more exciting for her because today the elementary students had "occupational dress-up day", and she just so happened to dress up as a teacher. She had her very own pointer and everything! :-)

Destiny loved helping during Numbers class. She helped the girls with number flashcard review, count by 5's, work on their addition families, and then even assisted them with their test. She even graded their test papers for me!

I Peter 5:8

On Friday after Show & Share, my verse helper selected this Bible verse to review as a class. This is definitely one of the favorite memory verses of the year so far! I think it has something to do with being able to make noise while singing it! :-) Because this was right after Show & Share, the girls weren't quite ready to let go of their items yet, so hence why they are holding them in the video!

Although it is a "cute" song, it definitely is a serious reminder!

Cobras in the Classroom!

This afternoon the model magic was brought out again. Apparently, cobras were the theme today! I was rather impressed with how they made these creepy creatures. :-)

My girls aren't definitely all "girly-girl" that's for sure!

Princess Cally

On Saturday, Cally turned 6 years old! She has been quite excited about this birthday for a LONG time now. We celebrated today, and of course, she got to wear the princess crown. She definitely enjoyed the experience, and was quite sad that she had to take it off before heading home. :-)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Earlier this week the girls were working on a Valentine's Day project for their parents. I am glad we got them done early because today there is no school due to getting about 1 ft (or more!) of snow. *Sigh*... This teacher is ready for SPRING!

 Enjoy the pictures!

A "Jiggly Jell-O" Snack

Today I brought in some strawberry Jell-O for the girls to enjoy during snack time.  The girls tried using heart-shaped cookie cutters to make Valentine hearts, but alas, the Jell-O had spread too thin and was too "jiggly". One of my girls said that it looked scared because it was shaking. :-)

Oh well! Uncooperative Jell-O didn't stop the girls from enjoying their strawberry treat!

Fun with Model Magic

So, yes, my blog has been silent all week. The reason? My lesson plans went up in smoke! Well, no, not literally...but because of this change...

Yep, getting tired of these snow days! Oh well...we were glad to be back together today. I had a special treat for the girls to play with this afternoon - Model Magic! It is kinda like super soft and moldable white clay. I brought in some new markers as well, so they could actually color the Model Magic and make it turn different colors. Needless to say, they were quite entertained for the rest of the afternoon!

The new markers I got the girls are called "pip squeak" markers because they are so tiny. There are actually 64 different colors. Cally was quite thrilled to discover the names of each color marker. Some of the names had all of us giggling! I guess you have to really have an imagination to come up with names for 64 different shades of color! Here are a few...

My girls with their "innocent" sweet smiles...

My girls letting their REAL crazy personalities show! :-)

Dime Store with Michelle

Yesterday Michelle was my teacher helper. She was the saleslady at our "dime store". In Numbers class we had been reviewing the dime and how to count by 10's. The girls were able to cut out some dimes and put them in their piggy bank along with the pennies already there. One of my girls actually suggested the idea of having a dime store that day, and since it seemed like perfect timing, that is exactly what we did! Michelle figured out which each item would cost, and then she really got into her "saleslady" role by asking the girls in a mature voice, "And what can I get for you, madam?" It was quite cute!

Before the girls got started at the dime store, we had to practice counting by 10's one more time (and why not capture the moment on video?!).....
