Proverbs 16:3

I love how enthusiastically my kiddos sing the Bible verses we learn each week! They pick up on them so fast, which I am sure has a lot to do with putting them to music. Thanks, Mr. E!! However, I have to smile every time we practice this particular Bible verse. After listening to the song on CD for the first time, one of my kiddos decided to try to sing it, and she did pretty good. After all, there are some rather large, confusing words in some of these Bible verses!

She sang - "Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be in Spanish!!"

Now enjoy listening to what she meant to sing..... :-)

The Months of the Year

During the 2nd quarter, we focused on learning the months of the year during calendar time. In case you are wondering why my kiddos seem to have the "jumping beans" at certain points, there is a purpose. They jump when it is their birthday month. :-) And yes, can you believe that 3 of my 4 students have April birthdays?!

Making Snowmen (The Cotton Ball Kind)

Today my kiddos made cotton ball snowmen. With a pile of snow outside and another pile of snow supposedly on the way, it was a very appropriate art activity for this afternoon! However, these snowmen were soft and sticky on the hands rather than cold and numbing!

Here are the finished products...

But of course, it's not really about the product, is it? It's all about the process!

Cutting out the hat, nose, mouth, eyes, and buttons

Tracing out their snowman's body (lids work great!)

Squeezing glue all over their snowman

Sticking on the fluffy cotton balls and the other various snowman parts :-)

Chatting together while they work on their project

The process is always so much fun to watch! If I had only posted a picture of the finished product, it just wouldn't have been complete! Of course, there are no pictures of the sticky, cottony hands, the smears of glue all over the desks, and the scraps of paper and cotton balls on the floor. That's all part of the process too, you know! ;-)

All Back Together Again

It was great having four smiling faces in school today after 2 & 1/2 weeks of either sickness or snow days!

The slide is still the highlight of the classroom. Sometimes I use it as a tool to release energy - "Okay, everyone go down the slide 10 times!" Works great!

Today, during their free play, I believe it was either a fire truck or an ambulance (some type of rescue vehicle at least!).

Although we were all back together again today, this week is not turning out "normal" at all. Monday we had off, today there was a delay because of the weather, and now it looks like Friday might turn into yet another snow day. Arrrgh!

This teacher is trying to learn flexibility and that plans are meant to be changed!

January 14, 2011

What was so significant about January 14, 2011?

Well, first, and most importantly, it was my Mom's birthday! She turned....well, if you followed my blog a year ago, you know how old she turned yesterday. My kiddos were making birthday cards for her in school and while they were doing this, I happened to be organizing our number flashcards. I showed them the number of how old my Mom was turning, and their eyes got huge - "THAT'S OLD!" they all exclaimed. (Of course, any number in the double digits for a 5-year-old is old, so my Mom wasn't too offended when I told her (I think)!). We celebrated her birthday by going out to eat, enjoying some cake and ice cream, and then playing some good ole' Apples to Apples.

Secondly, January 14, 2011, marked the end of the second quarter of school. This means that the school year is halfway over already! Where has the time gone?! My kiddos are doing awesome, and I am looking forward to the second half of the school year as their reading comprehension continues to develop, and they discover the wonders of adding and subtracting. :-)

Lastly, January 14, 2011, was the beginning of the spring semester at LCCC. I love that it is considered the spring semester, and yet it is in the dead of winter! Anyway, I have actually been looking forward to this particular online class I am taking. It's focusing on Quickbooks, the computer program that I use for both of my accounting jobs, so it is bound to be useful! I am also hoping that since I kinda have a head start in the Quickbooks world, it won't be too challenging...haha :-)

Hopefully, I will be back to posting a lot more soon. I can't believe it's halfway through January already, and this is my first blog entry of the year! I actually haven't had all 4 of my students in school at the same time since Christmas break. There has been a lot of sickness going around, and either one or the other has been sick. :-( Also, there have been 2 snow days already, so that makes it even more challenging to do fun things in Kindergarten when you are trying to play catch-up! Hopefully, next week Kindergarten will be back to "normal" (whatever that may be!) and I'll be back to posting about our adventures!
