January 14, 2011

What was so significant about January 14, 2011?

Well, first, and most importantly, it was my Mom's birthday! She turned....well, if you followed my blog a year ago, you know how old she turned yesterday. My kiddos were making birthday cards for her in school and while they were doing this, I happened to be organizing our number flashcards. I showed them the number of how old my Mom was turning, and their eyes got huge - "THAT'S OLD!" they all exclaimed. (Of course, any number in the double digits for a 5-year-old is old, so my Mom wasn't too offended when I told her (I think)!). We celebrated her birthday by going out to eat, enjoying some cake and ice cream, and then playing some good ole' Apples to Apples.

Secondly, January 14, 2011, marked the end of the second quarter of school. This means that the school year is halfway over already! Where has the time gone?! My kiddos are doing awesome, and I am looking forward to the second half of the school year as their reading comprehension continues to develop, and they discover the wonders of adding and subtracting. :-)

Lastly, January 14, 2011, was the beginning of the spring semester at LCCC. I love that it is considered the spring semester, and yet it is in the dead of winter! Anyway, I have actually been looking forward to this particular online class I am taking. It's focusing on Quickbooks, the computer program that I use for both of my accounting jobs, so it is bound to be useful! I am also hoping that since I kinda have a head start in the Quickbooks world, it won't be too challenging...haha :-)

Hopefully, I will be back to posting a lot more soon. I can't believe it's halfway through January already, and this is my first blog entry of the year! I actually haven't had all 4 of my students in school at the same time since Christmas break. There has been a lot of sickness going around, and either one or the other has been sick. :-( Also, there have been 2 snow days already, so that makes it even more challenging to do fun things in Kindergarten when you are trying to play catch-up! Hopefully, next week Kindergarten will be back to "normal" (whatever that may be!) and I'll be back to posting about our adventures!
